A Conversation with Avery Sunshine and Friends
In August, we welcomed Neo Soul artist and musician Avery Sunshine for a discussion on music in Music City. Music enthusiasts had a chance to interact with the artist who also put on an impromptu performance of her latest hits. Our inaugural Sips & Stanzas event was moderated by Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter, Shannon Sanders with discussions from Ms. Sunshine herself and local singer-songwriter Mike Hicks from Mike Hicks and the Funk Puncs.
Jimi Hendrix: His Friends and Followers in Nashville Reflect
In October, we hosted a panel discussion centered on the flamboyant character and musical genious that was Jimi Hendrix. Led by famed guitarist of Prince and The Revolution and CEO of The Pavilion Group, Dez Dickerson, panelist included world renowned bassist, Jesse Boyce, acclaimed author and MTSU professor, Dr. Mike Alleyne, and the “one to watch” emerging guitarist and songwriter Phil Hughley.
The panelists talked first hand experiences with the legend himself, his influence of music today and his time spent here in Nashville on historic Jefferson Street.
Jason Eskridge Unplugged
November saw our third series of Sips & Stanzas as we sat down with soul singer-songwriter Jason Eskridge for an unplugged fan experience at The Sutler. Guests enjoyed an up close and personal performance and discussion of music in the Music City by Eskridge. Songs from Eskridge’s newest album, Live in Nashville were heard, as well as an appearance by Grammy award winning singer-songwriter and producer Shannon Sanders who moderated the discussion.
From Jefferson Street to Music Row, A Shared History to Celebrate
In the month of December, Sips & Stanzas explored the shared musical history of Jefferson Street and Music Row. The final edition of Sips & Stanzas 2014, our CEO and President, Henry Hicks, moderated a panel consisting of Lorenzo Washington of the Jefferson Street Sound, Jimmy Church of the Jimmy Church Band and Eric Holt of Lovenoise. Panelists represented the living history of Music City and music industry enthusiasts to discuss the rise and fall of the music scene on Jefferson Street, the birth of Music Row and the state of music in Nashville today.
As we prepare for 2015, look for a schedule release of our second season of Sips & Stanzas beginning in January.
