Ben R. Rechter has been part of NMAAM project since before its inception and currently serves on the board of directors. His vision, experience and drive have been invaluable to the development of this project.

Born in Bloomington, Indiana, he and his family moved to the Nashville area in 1972. Mr. Rechter has served in many leadership capacities and is a principal owner in Rogers Group, Inc., a family-owned business since 1908, operating in nine states throughout the Midwest and Southeast, providing crushed stone, sand, gravel, asphalt paving and road and bridge construction. Its corporate headquarters are located in Nashville, TN. He also serves as a director to four additional corporations.

To say that Ben has the community at heart, is an understatement. He has been a benefactor and served on the boards of many not for profit organizations; St. Thomas Health Services, Metro Development and Housing Agency, Nashville Public Television, United Way of Middle Tennessee, Fisk University, Nashville Community Foundation, Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, Tennessee Performing Arts Center, Nashville Institute for the Arts, Nashville Symphony Association, Nashville Urban League, WPLN Education Foundation, Cumberland Museum & Science Center and the Leonard Bernstein Center for Education Through the Arts and Nashville Unites have all benefited from his talents and experience.

He has received numerous accolades and awards over the years. Among them are the Nashville Urban League Equal Opportunity Award, Tennessee Performing Arts Center Applause Award, Jewish National Fund “Tree of Life” Award, Anti-Defamation League Americanism Award, United Way, Alexis de Tocqueville Award, National Conference of Christians and Jews Leadership Award, Public Broadcasting Service Public Television Development Leadership Award, Joe Kraft Humanitarian Award and the Bridges to Equality Award.

In addition, he has been awarded a Doctor of Humanities honorary degree at Belmont University and Doctor of Humane letters honorary degree from Meharry Medical College and Fisk University.
