Damon Williams is the Vice President of Programming & Content Development for Music Choice, the multi-platform video and music network that reaches millions of consumers nationwide. In Williams’ role, he helps conceptualize and manage the development of the company’s ‘products’ – including the launch of its newest network SWRV the first 24/7 interactive music video network, and Music Choice On Demand the most popular On Demand video network in the country. Williams also oversees the direction and strategy for all video and music programming at Music Choice, including the development of Content. In addition to overseeing a team of music programmers who are responsible for programming over 50 music channels, he has also guided the production department through the development and launch of several Music Choice Original shows such as Artist of the Month featuring Beyoncé and Avril Lavigne, Fresh Crops featuring Ne-Yo and Taylor Swift, Tha Corner, and Rock U.
Williams also oversaw the launch of Music Choice’s first interactive show, Certified, the networks most viewed Original show which landed the network its first award for interactive music programming presented by Billboard Magazine. He was also a vital member of the team that developed and launched the network’s broadband music site and its music service for mobile phone subscribers.
Williams joined Music Choice in 1998, spending his first years with the company as the lead programmer for the urban music channels, which under his direction, emerged as the most popular channels in the line-up. Williams has been instrumental in establishing and maintaining relationships in the music industry for Music Choice working with labels, managers, and both up-and-coming and established recording artists.
Considered one of the leading music programmers in the country, Williams’ has over 20 years of broadcast experience. In 1996 as Program Director of Radio One’s WKYS in Washington, DC he took the station to the number one spot in only six months and was named acknowledged as one of the outstanding Programmers of 1996 by Impact Magazine. Prior to his work at WKYS, Williams programmed one of the first Hip Hop station’s in the country CBS/Infinity Broadcasting’s station WPGC-FM. He also held programming and on-air positions at Willis Broadcasting’s 92.1 Kiss-FM in Norfolk, VA and Power 94-FM in Virginal Beach.
In addition to his work at Music Choice Williams serves as the Chairman of the Board of the Rhythm and Blues Foundation a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of R&B music and assisting legacy artists in need with grants and donations. Damon is also a graduate of Norfolk State University and member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
