Sips & Stanzas presents… Remembering Michael: Honoring His Contribution to the Music Industry

NMAAM ended Black Music Month with Sips N’ Stanzas: Remembering Michael Jackson. Our panelists Brian Sexton, Saaneah Jamison, and Paris Delane discussed the impact and influence of The King of Pop’s music on American and World culture, along with the economic impact, direct influence on other artists and the way his music helped people realize their similarities. The event was moderated by the newly elected president of the Nashville chapter of the Recording Academy, Shannon Sanders. Performers included the soulful Laura Reed, along with Paris Delane, Saaneah, and Eric Copeland. Special thanks to HCA for sponsoring the event and Atlanta based artist, Aseem Hetep for donating his functional art peice for our silent auction.

shannonShannon Sanders, gifted with the ability to entertain while driven by a desire to enlighten, 2x Grammy-winning producer, singer and songwriter Shannon Sanders has always had a passion for the stage. Mullen (Dove), John Legend, Anthony David, Eric Benet and Marc Broussard just to name a few. As the originator of the 2006 R&B Billboard favorite, “In My Mind” (Heather Headley), this song displays Shannon’s uncanny ability to translate issues surrounding the matters of the heart for both men and women—both as a vocalist and a producer. Brian Sexton Art geek and certified music nut are two ways to describe Brian Sexton, founder and co-owner of brianSpreadLuv.com. Brian began his journey into the world of Arts & Entertainment in 2011 as a Blogger. Overtime he felt a strong desire to connect with his subscribers by partnering with co-owner Lonnell Matthews to host a series of concerts that would bring out their core audience. With the help of numerous performers/visual artists throughout Nashville, SpreadLuv was able to raise over $15,000 in 2014 for local nonprofits in the area of Arts & Entertainment which included The National Museum of African American Music. In his spare time, Brian enjoys local art crawls, discovering new music and watching VH1 Soul with his family.

SanealSaaneah Jameson , “Soul Goddess” has graced audiences all over with her unique blend of R&B, jazz, funk, hip-hop, and blues. Saaneah is a talented entertainer that writes and produces her own music and choreographs her own performances. Singing as long as she has been speaking, Saaneah is an electric powerhouse influenced by greats such as Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Ella Fitzgerald, and Donny Hathaway. This 24 year old performing artist graduated high school from Nashville School of the Arts and continued her studies in the commercial music department at Tennessee State University. Her mission is to reach the masses and enhance and enlighten the souls of people with lyrical eloquence and substance thus creating timeless music that is positive, true, and elevates the spirit.

Paris Delane is a member of the funky, soulful band “Legends Elite.” He was born in Chicago, where his passion pariafor music began. At the age of 8, his mother put a guitar in his hands. By age 9, Paris was writing his own songs. Growing up, he was musically influenced by his mother, Lillian, who sang for the gospel singer Albertine Walker. As he grew, so did his passion for music, Paris began singing in church, around his neighborhood, and in his high school talent show. Paris went on to pick up how to play piano, lead guitar, bass guitar, drums, flute, and saxophone.
